BREAKING: Oyo Government Imposes 16-Hour Curfew in 10 LGAs Over Security Concerns
The Oyo State Government has announced a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas of the state as part of urgent measures aimed at addressing rising security challenges.
Governor Seyi Makinde approved the curfew, which will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The restriction will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and will remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours.
According to a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Musibau Babatunde, the curfew affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, an area that has recently come under increased security scrutiny.
The affected local government areas are:
- Oriire (Ikoyi-Ile)
- Orelope (Igboho)
- Irepo (Kisi)
- Saki West (Saki)
- Saki East (Ago-Amodu)
- Atisbo (Tede/Ago-Are)
- Itesiwaju (Otu)
- Iseyin (Iseyin)
- Olorunsogo (Igbeti)
- Atiba (Offa-Meta, Oyo)
The government stated that the temporary restriction is intended to strengthen security operations and safeguard lives and property within the affected communities. Residents have been urged to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with security agencies deployed across the areas.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle criminal activities and secure the release of abducted teachers and pupils who were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area in May 2026. Authorities believe the kidnappers may be operating within or around the expansive Old Oyo National Park, prompting intensified security operations in the region.
The state government noted that the security situation will be reviewed after the initial 48-hour period, after which further directives may be issued.
