The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the incumbent Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, to secure a second term in office.
The returning officer for the election, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced the final result on Sunday following the completion of collation from the 30 local government areas in the state.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji recorded 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes according to the final figures reported after the declaration.
The result means Adeleke will continue as Governor of Osun State for another four-year term.
The election, held on Saturday, August 15, featured 15 candidates, with Adeleke and Oyebamiji emerging as the two leading contenders.
At the local government level, Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 LGAs.
The declaration brings an end to the major stage of the electoral process after voting, counting and the subsequent collation of results across the state.
Adeleke’s victory also marks another electoral contest in which he has successfully defeated the APC in Osun State, after his victory over the party’s candidate in the 2022 governorship election.
The governor’s supporters have since begun celebrations in parts of Osogbo and other locations across the state following the official announcement.
