Security agencies in Kwara State have announced a successful military operation along Babanla Road and a temporary restriction on cattle transactions at the popular Kwara Ajasepo (Kaara) Market, the Joint Security Watch Kwara South said on Wednesday.
According to the Joint Security Watch, troops of the Nigerian Army repelled an attempt by suspected bandits to ambush a military convoy at Alabe on Babanla Road in Ifelodun Local Government Area late Tuesday night.
The statement said six suspected bandits were neutralised during the encounter and there were no casualties among security personnel.
“The gallant troops successfully repelled the attempt and neutralized not fewer than six suspected bandits,” the body said, adding that patrols in the area have been intensified.
Separately, the statement said security agencies have directed a temporary suspension of cattle transactions at Kwara Ajasepo Market (Kaara Market) with effect from Tuesday, 19 August 2026.
The move follows “credible intelligence” linking some cattle dealers and herdsmen to banditry and kidnapping activities, the Joint Security Watch said.
However, all other market activities are allowed to continue as normal, the statement emphasised.
The security group described the measure as a proactive step to protect lives, property and legitimate business, and urged traders, community leaders and residents to cooperate with security agencies.
It called for increased vigilance and profiling at markets to distinguish genuine traders from suspected criminal elements and encouraged members of the public to report suspicious movements.
“We remain committed to restoring lasting peace to Kwara South,” the Joint Security Watch added.
