Atiku Clinches ADC Presidential Ticket
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress, ADC presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general election after polling 1,846,370 votes.
Atiku defeated former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who secured 504,117 votes, and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who polled 177,120 votes in the exercise conducted across the 36 states and the FCT.
The results were announced in Abuja on Wednesday by the party’s Presidential Primary Election Committee, which disclosed that 2,527,977 registered ADC members participated in the primary election.
Chairman of the committee, Chief Ikechi Emenike, said the figures were compiled from submissions by authentic party chairmen deployed nationwide to supervise the polls, while Chief Returning Officer, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, officially declared Atiku winner of the contest.
In his acceptance speech, Atiku congratulated other aspirants and commended ADC members for conducting what he described as a transparent, credible and democratic primary election despite alleged intimidation and suppression of opposition groups.
He described the ADC as a coalition built on sacrifice and compromise to strengthen democracy in Nigeria and urged aggrieved members and supporters of other aspirants to unite with the party ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing that there were no winners or losers in the contest.
