PDP Affirms Onor as 2027 Presidential Candidate
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally affirmed Senator Sandy Onor as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The affirmation took place at the party’s national convention in Abuja, where delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory endorsed him as the party’s consensus candidate.
In his acceptance speech, Onor said the party had regained its identity as a united and visionary political platform ready to govern Nigeria.
“Today, we have a leadership that is united, purposeful and visionary. Today, we have reclaimed our party, the legacy party, the Peoples Democratic Party,” he said.
The presidential candidate pledged to run a pan-Nigerian campaign anchored on energy, courage, competence, and intellectual depth.
Onor assured Nigerians that a PDP-led government under his leadership would prioritize competence and restore public confidence in governance.
“Citizens of this country will be proud that we have a PDP that is ready to govern well,” he stated.
He also dismissed claims of division within the party, insisting that there is only one legally recognized PDP, while noting that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present at party events.
Chairman of the Presidential Primary Election Committee, Dr. Samuel Ortom, said the party worked closely with stakeholders across the states to arrive at a consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

Similarly, PDP National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, appreciated INEC officials for supervising the convention and earlier primary elections conducted across the country.
He expressed confidence in the party’s unity and chances in the forthcoming election.
“By God’s grace, the PDP and our men and women across the federation will succeed, and Insha Allah, 2027 will be great for all Nigerians,” he said.
The highpoint of the convention was the presentation of the certificate of return and party flag to Senator Sandy Onor as the party’s presidential flag bearer for the 2027 general election.
