Nigeria and Algeria Set for Quarter-Final Clash at AFCON 2025
Marrakesh, Morocco — Nigeria will meet Algeria in the quarter-final stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following results from the Round of 16.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria reached the quarter-finals after a commanding 4–0 win over Mozambique in Fez, a result that sealed their progression to the last eight of the tournament.
Algeria secured their place in the same stage with a late extra-time winner against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rabat. Substitute Adil Boulbina struck in the 118th minute to give Algeria a 1–0 victory and keep their title hopes alive.
The draw sets up a quarter-final encounter between two of Africa’s traditional football powers. The match is scheduled for Saturday, 10 January 2026 at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, with kick-off set for 5 p.m. West African Time (WAT).
Nigeria will enter the tie with confidence after a potent attacking display in the Round of 16, while Algeria arrive riding the momentum of a dramatic knockout win and a defence that has been difficult to break down.
The winner of Saturday’s quarter-final will advance to the semi-finals, where a place in the title match is at stake. Algeria and Nigeria have a history of competitive meetings at the Africa Cup of Nations, adding further significance to Saturday’s tie.
