Nigerian Army Rescues Six Kidnap Victims in Kaduna
Troops of Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, (OPFY) have rescued six kidnapped victims in the Kajuru/Kujama general area of Kaduna State.
The rescue was confirmed in a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Shu’aib Umar. He said the operation formed part of a coordinated series of military actions conducted across multiple axes within Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia and Kagarko Local Government Areas, including border communities around Kauru.
According to the statement, troops responded swiftly to a distress alert concerning the activities of violent extremists around the Kasso adjoining hills. Soldiers of Sub-Sector 5, who were already carrying out clearance operations in the Kujeni general area, immediately mobilised to the location.
On arrival, the troops encountered the criminals and engaged them with effective suppressive fire, forcing the suspects to flee in disarray into the surrounding forest.
The Army explained that the operations were deliberately designed to further restrict the freedom of action of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area (JOA) and the wider Sector 1 of the Operation’s area of responsibility.
The rescued victims were safely handed over to representatives of the Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for onward reunification with their families.
The statement added that the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1 OPFY, Major General Abubakar Wase, commended the troops for their professionalism and charged them to remain on maximum alert while sustaining aggressive operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the JOA.
