The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will deploy about 1.4 million ad hoc personnel across more than 176,000 polling units nationwide for the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this in Abuja when he received a Pre-Election Assessment Mission delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI), led by former United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Jendayi Frazier.
Amupitan said the Commission would strengthen its logistics arrangements, including collaboration with transport unions, to ensure that polling units open at 8:30 a.m. on election day.
He explained that INEC would provide assistive devices for persons with disabilities, pregnant women, the elderly and nursing mothers to improve access to polling units.
On the 2027 electioneering campaigns, the INEC Chairman urged political parties and candidates to focus on issues, ideas and policies rather than violence and personal attacks.
In her remarks, the President of the International Republican Institute, Dr Jendayi Frazier, expressed the international community’s willingness to support Nigeria’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
Frazier also urged politicians and their supporters to shun violence during the electioneering campaigns.
