OsunDecides 2026: Voting Ends as Early Results Emerge, Collation Begins

Voting has ended in several polling units across Osun State following Saturday’s governorship election, with electoral officials moving into the sorting, counting and collation of ballots.

The conclusion of voting has shifted attention to the announcement of results at polling units and their subsequent collation at ward and local government levels.

In several locations, presiding officers began sorting and counting the ballots shortly after voting ended, while the first results started emerging from different parts of the state.

The election featured Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji and African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam, among other contenders.

Adeleke, who voted at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area, expressed confidence in his chances of securing another term in office.

Oyebamiji, who cast his vote at Ward 09, Unit 011, in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, also expressed optimism about his chances of winning the election.

However, the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, raised concerns over the alleged non-recognition of some of his party agents at polling locations across the state.

As counting progressed, early results began to circulate from individual polling units. At Adeleke’s polling unit in Ede North, the Accord candidate recorded 420 votes, while the APC candidate received 29 votes and the ADC candidate polled one vote, according to early figures reported from the unit.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has continued the uploading of polling-unit results to its Result Viewing portal, allowing members of the public and election observers to monitor results as they are transmitted.

The process is expected to continue from polling units to ward and local government collation centres before the final state-wide result is declared by INEC.

With voting now concluded, attention is firmly on the collation process as political parties, observers and voters await the official outcome of the Osun governorship election.
