Police Arrest 12 Suspects After Deadly Estate Attack in Rivers State
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of twelve suspects linked to a violent attack on a residential estate in Mbodo–Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
Police said the incident occurred on Monday afternoon, when armed assailants including members of a vigilante group known locally as OSPAC alongside hired thugs, allegedly burst into Unity Estate in a commando-style assault. The attackers were reported to have fired sporadic shots, causing terror and damage to vehicles and properties within the neighbourhood.
Spokesperson for the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the response team moved swiftly after receiving a distress call and successfully apprehended several suspects connected to the incident. Officers also rescued an abducted resident who sustained a leg injury during the attack.
Recovered exhibits include a pump-action gun, live cartridges, assorted charms, five motorcycles, two mini buses and a van.
According to the police, the suspects are now in custody, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional persons believed to be involved.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Addeo, has criticized the violence, stressing that the command will make all involved parties answer for their actions and that the citizens are to be secured. .
