Mama Yoruba” Title for Oluremi Tinubu — Ooni Crowns Her Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua
On Sunday in Ile‑Ife, Osun State, the palace of the Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (the Ooni of Ife) shook the air with celebration as Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, was honoured with the prestigious chieftaincy title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua, a title bearing deep history and respect across Yorubaland.
Mrs. Tinubu arrived the palace around 1 PM, greeted by fanfare, security and the royal chiefs, before being ushered to the Palace Square for the formal investiture, which coincided with the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni.
The gathering was a grand display of Yoruba unity, traditional rulers and dignitaries from across the land were present, including the Ogiame Atuwatse III (Olu of Warri), the Sultan of Sokoto, the Soun of Ogbomoso, among others.
The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua was last held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of the national icon Obafemi Awolowo, underlining the gravitas of the honour.
According to Ooni Ogunwusi, Mrs.Remi Tinubu’s dedication, impact, and contributions to society and to the Yoruba community has earned her the title, which honors her leadership, cultural stewardship, and maternal qualities.Mrs.Tinubu expressed her gratitude, calling the honour humbling, and urged Nigerians to believe in a future where the country rises. Among the many dignitaries at the event were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, state governors, and traditional rulers from across Nigeria’s regions.
This latest honour is not Mrs. Tinubu’s first, earlier in 2025 she picked up other traditional titles across the country, including recognitions for humanitarian and national development efforts.
