Fubara Dumps PDP, Joins APC — Rivers Governor Switches Side

Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He announced the move during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Fubara said the decision was driven by the need for stable governance and the support his administration has received from the presidency, suggesting that being aligned with APC will help Rivers State make progress.

This defection comes after in-state political turbulence: recently, 15 (or more) lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly had already decamped from PDP to APC, shifting the state’s political balance.

With Fubara’s exit, the APC further consolidates power in the region, a development that will draw sharp reactions from PDP loyalists and stir fresh debates about party loyalty, political strategy, and the 2027 elections.
