AFCON 2025: Mozambique President Promises ₦11.3m Bonus Per Player to Upset Super Eagles

The President of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, has approved a special cash incentive for the country’s national football team ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 showdown with Nigeria.President Chapo announced that each player and member of the technical crew of the Mambas will receive an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 Mozambican meticais, estimated at ₦11.3 million, should they defeat the Super Eagles and qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament.

The development was confirmed in reports from Mozambican and Nigerian media following the team’s qualification for the knockout stage of the competition currently holding in Morocco.

According to the reports, the Mozambican leader described the bonus as a reward for the team’s effort so far and a motivation to push beyond their limits against one of Africa’s most successful football nations.Mozambique booked their place in the Round of 16 after a spirited group stage performance, but they now face a stern test against Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions and one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

The Super Eagles, who are unbeaten in the competition, are expected to go into this match full of confidence, following their display of defensive solidity and attacking potency in their previous matches.Although Nigeria are favored in this match, the Mozambican camp feels that the financial reward and the belief in the camp may just spark an upset.

The winner of the tie will proceed to the quarter-finals as the competition for the continent’s top honor heats up.
