3 Countries Crash Out of AFCON 2025 After Failing to Register a Single Point
Three national teams have been sent home from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco after disappointing group-stage campaigns as they could not get a single point

Botswana, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon exited the tournament early as their results left them rooted to the bottom of their groups with zero points, making progression to the Round of 16 impossible regardless of remaining fixtures.
Botswana: Returning to AFCON for the first time since 2012, Botswana struggled in Group D, losing their opening matches and sealing their fate at the foot of the standings.
Equatorial Guinea was once a regular in the knockout rounds, the team endured a tough Group E run, losing all three games and finishing with no points.
Gabon: Gabon also bowed out in Group F after a series of defeats left them unable to climb out of last place.
Despite some matches still to be played, results elsewhere have confirmed that none of the three countries can reach the necessary points tally to advance.
As Botswana, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon prepare to depart Morocco, other nations remain locked in tight battles for knockout-round qualification. Hosts Morocco and senior sides like Egypt and Algeria are in strong positions to book spots in the Round of 16, while the final round of group matches will determine the remaining qualifiers.
